James Turrell's work at Roden Crater is a profound exploration of light, inviting the viewer to experience a deeper connection with the natural world by immersing them in carefully crafted spaces that alter their perception of time and space. The design of the Alpha East Tunnel, with its play on ambient light and spatial transitions, has inspired this collection of lighting pieces. The original light design serves as the foundation for a broader collection, featuring linear pendants, singular vertical pendants, a set of three different-sized pendants, sconces, and floor lamps. Each piece within the collection draws on Turrell's concept of guiding the viewer through an experiential journey, creating an intimate interaction with light. The materials and forms used in these lights, like rice paper, create a soft, diffused glow that evokes the meditative and transformative feelings Turrell’s work elicits. By experimenting with these shapes and compositions, the collection aims to provide versatile lighting solutions that evoke the same sense of space, time, and connection to the environment.
